Laser teeth whitening explained

The whitening procedure is carried out by a professionally qualified smile therapist.

The whitening gel is applied, then activated by a laser light from the Smile Quest Teeth Whitening System. This enables the hydrogen peroxide to swiftly penetrate the enamel.

Each application takes 10 minutes, with a full treatment consisting of three 10 minute applictions - so it really IS possible to get dramatic results of between 7 and 15 shades lighter in your lunch hour!

Frequently asked questions

  • Does teeth whitening really work?
Yes, It really does! The surface of the teeth contains millions of microscopic pores, and over the years organic compounds from food, fizzy drinks, tea, coffee or tobacco can penetrate these pores , causing discoloration of the tooth enamel. Almost all natural teeth respond to the whitening process , however some teeth take longer to whiten , such as those with tetracycline antibiotic staining.

  • Does whitening work on veneers, crowns, bridges and fillings?
The whitening process will NOT whiten veneers, crowns, bridges and fillings. However, they will be restored to their original colour.

  • Does teeth whitening damage the enamel of the teeth?
Research shows there is no risk to the enamel.

  • Will it hurt?
Most people find the process painless. However, a small percentage may experience temporary sensitivity to hot & cold or minor gum irritation, for 24 to 48 hours after the treatment.

  • How long will the results last?
This depends on the system that is used. The laser light procedure will stay noticably whiter for 18-24 months. However, a 10 minute top-up treatment every 12-18 months will maintain that dazzling smile.

  • Who can benefit from teeth whitening?
Some people are blessed with naturally white teeth. However, most of us would benefit from a helping hand to keep our pearly whites white - so anyone who is over the age of 16 and has their own teeth is eligible.

We would advise pregnant women or nursing mothers to consult their GP prior to using any teeth whitening products.
